ShadeType Privacy Screen Mod is a privacy screen app that covers your display while you type to reduce shoulder surfing. It keeps the keyboard visible while placing a veil over the rest of the screen, so you can continue using your usual typing habits in public places.
The app is designed for situations where somebody nearby could read messages, notes, passwords, or banking details from your display. Its overlay works while typing in messaging, email, note-taking, browser, banking, and social media apps.
A Privacy Veil for Typing
ShadeType Privacy Screen Mod focuses on the area around the keyboard instead of dimming the entire display all day. When you begin typing, a small control appears above the keyboard. Tap it once to place the veil over the screen, while the keyboard remains available for typing.
The veil is slightly translucent, allowing your text to remain faintly visible from your normal viewing distance while making it difficult for somebody sitting beside you to read. Press and hold the veil when you need to check your text, then release it to hide the screen again. Tap OFF to remove the veil immediately.
Controls That Follow Your Typing
The control can be dragged to another part of the screen, helping you keep it away from the text or interface you are using. ShadeType Privacy Screen Mod remembers where you place it. The veil also turns off automatically when you close the keyboard.
- A control appears when the keyboard opens, giving you access to the privacy veil while typing.
- Hold-to-peek lets you briefly view your text before the veil returns when you release it.
- Instant off removes the veil when you no longer need screen privacy.
- The draggable control can stay out of the way of the content you are writing.
Keep Your Existing Keyboard
ShadeType Privacy Screen Mod is not a replacement keyboard. You continue using Gboard, SwiftKey, or another keyboard already installed on your device. Your existing autocorrect, swipe typing, emoji, and normal keyboard workflow remain available.
Free and Pro Options
The free tools include the veil, hold-to-peek, instant off, a draggable control with a remembered position, and automatic shutdown when the keyboard closes. There are no ads, subscriptions, or accounts in the free version.
The Pro option is a single one-time purchase with additional control over the overlay. It includes adjustable veil opacity, Ink, Slate, Warm, and Pure veil styles and colours, control size and starting position settings, and animation speed options including instant.
- Auto-veil can enable the veil when you open selected apps.
- Skip-app rules keep the control from appearing in apps where you do not want it.
- A Quick Settings tile provides one-tap control.
- The app can start again automatically after a device restart.
Accessibility and Privacy
ShadeType Privacy Screen Mod uses Android's Accessibility Service to detect when the keyboard is open, identify its screen position, and identify the foreground app for per-app rules. It does not read, record, or transmit what you type, and it does not inspect the contents of other apps.
Your settings are kept in the app's private storage. The app records anonymous usage counts, such as how often it is opened, without personal information attached.
Important Limits
ShadeType Privacy Screen Mod is a software overlay, not a polarising screen protector. It does not change your display's hardware viewing angles, block screenshots, stop screen recordings, or prevent a camera from being pointed at the phone. Its purpose is to hide the screen from people around you while you type.

Mod Review
This build suits people who regularly type in shared spaces and want a veil that appears alongside their existing keyboard. It is especially relevant when entering private messages, passwords, or bank details where nearby readers are the concern. Skip it if your main need is protection from screenshots, screen recording, cameras, or wide viewing angles, because the overlay does not address those cases. People cautious about app data should also consider that Google Play lists app interactions, installed apps, and device or other IDs as collected data.
What the mod changes
This build is labeled Premium Unlocked. The label identifies the mod without defining which Premium options are enabled in this package. ShadeType Privacy Screen Mod still centers on a typing-triggered overlay and its controls around the keyboard. Its official version 1.0.6 release notes include a hotfix for the veil button.
Pros
- The keyboard stays visible, so you retain your usual autocorrect, swipe typing, and emoji workflow.
- Hold-to-peek lets you check text briefly without leaving the privacy veil disabled.
- The draggable control remembers its location, helping it avoid the content you are currently writing.
- Per-app rules can automatically veil selected apps or skip apps where the control is unwanted.
Cons
- Google Play lists app interactions, installed apps, and device or other IDs as collected data.
- The overlay cannot prevent screenshots, screen recordings, camera capture, or changes to hardware viewing angles.
- The veil-button hotfix in version 1.0.6 may not be reflected if this build uses an earlier version.
Verdict
Install it when screen privacy while typing is the specific problem you need to address. Before installing, check that the build version includes the veil-button hotfix from version 1.0.6 and that your device runs Android 8.0 or later.
FAQ
How does ShadeType Privacy Screen hide text while I type?
A small control appears above the keyboard when you start typing. Tapping it drops a slightly translucent veil over the display while leaving the keyboard visible. You can hold the veil to peek at your text and release it to hide the screen again.
Can I keep using Gboard or SwiftKey with ShadeType Privacy Screen?
Yes. ShadeType Privacy Screen is not a keyboard replacement, so it works with Gboard, SwiftKey, or another keyboard already installed. Your autocorrect, swipe typing, and emoji remain part of your normal keyboard use.
What does the Premium Unlocked label change?
This build is labeled Premium Unlocked. The label does not define which Premium options are enabled in this package. ShadeType Privacy Screen's official Pro option includes controls such as opacity, styles, auto-veil rules, and a Quick Settings tile.
Does ShadeType Privacy Screen block screenshots or screen recordings?
No. It is a software overlay intended to hide your screen from people nearby while you type. It does not block screenshots, screen recording, cameras pointed at the phone, or hardware viewing angles.
What Android version does ShadeType Privacy Screen require?
ShadeType Privacy Screen requires Android 8.0 or later. The Google Play data safety listing identifies app interactions, installed apps, and device or other IDs as collected data.
